{"id":663,"date":"2008-02-21T07:16:13","date_gmt":"2008-02-21T07:16:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/10.131.168.108\/wordpress\/?p=663"},"modified":"2008-02-21T07:16:13","modified_gmt":"2008-02-21T07:16:13","slug":"663","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elhogue.com\/shannah\/2008\/02\/21\/663\/","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here was my outline for classes yesterday:<\/p>\n<p>-Start with the &#8220;Witch Village&#8221; scene from <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Monty Python and the Holy Grail<\/span><br \/>-Begin the powerpoint to introduce logical fallacies<br \/>-Talk about <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Occam%27s_Razor\" target=\"_new\">Occam&#8217;s Razor<\/a> (show a clip from <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Eureka<\/span> where one character explains this concept)<br \/>-Describe the various logical fallacies (focusing on the &#8220;big&#8221; ones like circular reasoning, false dilemma, post hoc ergo propter hoc, and slippery slope)<br \/>-Show the &#8220;Battle of Wits&#8221; scene from <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">The Princess Bride<\/span> and analyze it to name the logical fallacies present, especially the fallacy that killed him (it was false dilemma, if you wanted to know).<\/p>\n<p>The students always enjoy that class, and frankly, so do I!&nbsp; The ability to use pop culture in Composition is one of my greatest assets, and I take full advantage of it!<\/p>\n<p>As for the rest of the day, nothing terribly exciting.&nbsp; I should have 3 of 4 students finish Basic by Spring Break which is nice.&nbsp; I was supposed to meet with a student at 4:00, but her 3:00 class got canceled, so I got to leave earlier than I was expecting.
