It’s Thursday.  The week is flying by!

Random Thursday thoughts:

  • I’m making a meal tonight for a couple in the orchestra who had their third girl on the weekend.  I’m still not sure what to make.  Any recommendations?
  • Last night, Eric discovered large black ants wandering around our kitchen.  Yuck!  I’m not sure where they got in, but I will be spraying to keep them out!
  • School is starting to feel do-able again.  I think I’m finally starting to get the hang of Basic English.  Classes yesterday went very well even though we’re still learning new things about the program and such.  Grad school is still a bit unknown, but I really need to get some work done for Monday (we didn’t have class on Labor Day).
  • So I guess popcorn is now dangerous to one’s health.  I always use the air popper, though, so I’m not worried.
  • I really need to start my to-do list now.  Happy Thursday!

  1. The guy ate two bags a day for YEARS! When he stopped, he lost fifty pounds and was fine. He also spent time breathing in the smell, inviting that stuff into his lungs.

  2. ^Bless you! I really was a tad distraught!^

Shannah, I forgot to add that there is a perverse pleasure in watching all the crunchy ants feast on their last meal. I know…I’m a little twisted. I had brothers, and birthed boys….

  3. “A pulmonary specialist at Denver’s National Jewish Medical and Research Center had written to federal agencies to say doctors there believe they have the first case of a consumer who developed lung disease from the fumes of microwaving popcorn several times a day for years, according to reports Tuesday.”
How much popcorn does this person eat that they’re making it several times a day?!  Terri, I think as long as you don’t make it your meal 3x a day, it sounds like you’re safe!

  4. So far, I have sprayed the ant repellent that I already had at the base of the doors into the kitchen and around the cabinets.

If that doesn’t work, I’ll be heading out for the stronger stuff!

  5. OK, people, we’re ignoring the more obvious issues!!

    1. ants. We had big black ants. Get Terro.  It’s a liquid…you put a drop on a piece of cardboard somewhere unobtrusive, they flock to eat it, carry the poison back to the hill(?), and Bingo! They’re gone!!!!

    2. Popcorn. I even lick the inside of the bag. I’m distraught.

A roasted chicken would be good, too. Easy…Oven for 45 minutes at 400 degrees.

  6. I can’t remember where I read it, but I thought it was a tad stupid. It obviously bothers some kids. I think it was actually American Baby!

  7. ^Ooooh. Good idea. Her other kids will probably like it, too.^

And for the record, the spicy food didn’t bother my kids much, but the onions led to more gas than usual.

  8. ^ It definitely seemed to bother Kayla.  That, and deep fried food, and eggs, and… anything else I wanted to eat.  Once you get projectile spit-up a few times, it doesn’t matter to you whether it’s a myth – you just do anything to stop it. ^

Chicken and noodles sounds really good to me.  Could you make a double batch?

  9. Don’t make mexican lasagna if she’s breastfeeding…sometimes spicy food and onions aren’t real good for a little one’s digestion. (But you could make that for me…it sounds mmmmmm!)

Maybe a nice tuna casserole or chicken and noodles…something that is kid-friendly (for her other kids) and not spicy.

  10. I heard about the popcorn, too. Good thing I don’t eat it anyway.

Make Mexican lasagna. Emeril made it last night, and it looked really good. I’m sure you could find the recipe on the Food Network’s Web site.
