I haven’t got much to share today, sadly. Yesterady wasn’t an exciting day. Of course, some of it was feeling really tired from poor sleeping the night before. The rest of it was just a quiet day.
I did not end up getting the paint for the nursery yesterday. The guy there was a bit frazzled for some reason, so he was having problems communicating well with customers. The people in front of me were downright confused before they left to call someone to clarify exactly what they needed. And he stressed me out by the manner in which he told me that he needed a dry paint sample, that he couldn’t use wet paint (and it couldn’t just dry for 15 minutes). So I took the paint stirrer and went home again. I have two dry samples this morning, so the shade of yellow should be as close as it’s going to get. And I guess I will try again today.
EDIT: Here’s the paint situation. The room intended to be the nursery is yellow with the alphabet stenciled around the top of the wall. Unfortunately, as it was a little girl’s room originally, the color choices for the alphabet are distinctly girly (lavender, coral, sage green). I would never choose these colors (except maybe the green), and they are very difficut to match to gender-neutral baby stuff. So the yellow will stay, and the alphabet will go. They did leave us a small amount of the exact paint color (called ‘daffodil’ when it was originally used 7 or so years ago), but she didn’t leave any info about where they bought it or what brand of paint it was. And it will not even begin to cover the stencils (every room we’ve repainted has required 3-4 coats to cover her color choices). So we have to get more paint in a very close shade of yellow so that we can paint 2-3 layers to cover the stencils and a touch-up coat on the rest of the walls. END EDIT
Of course, coming home paint-less meant my afternoon, which was going to involve some work in the nursery, was now very, very open. So I cleaned up the piles of stuff around the house and put lots of things away (like folded laundry). I even made our bed. Then I sat down and read for a while.
Eric grilled steak for dinner, so we enjoyed that. He spent the evening “hacking” a friend’s computer (with permission), and they were quite entertaining to watch harass each other online. I tried to find something to watch on television (no luck) and ended up reading some more until Karen called. We chatted for about half an hour.
Today’s agenda is pretty open, too. Not sure what the day will hold at this point, but I think the sun is just starting to peek out from the clouds. It’s supposed to be a bit cooler today, so that should be nice! Happy Wednesday!
Don’t you love it when people who are supposed to be customer service agents are so customer unfriendly! Hope the paint color matched!
@ch1pch0p – i thought you might.
@faithchick – I’m gonna kick YOU!
@trishlrich – @shannahhogue – @ch1pch0p – i painted almost our whole house when i was pregnant w/ e1. and i painted 1/2 our house when i was pregnant with e2. (and i’m about to paint something again!) and whenever anyone says anything about it i kick them. oh, wait. no. i don’t kick them. I tell them that’s why my kids are soooooo smart.
Listen, I understand all this research crap, but I’d really just prefer if you didn’t paint at all. ‘kay? Kay.
@terriwright What Trisha said is pretty much what I’ve read about painting while pregnant. No actual studies have been done on women painting a nursery (ie, once vs. on a regular basis), so they just recommend painting in a well-ventilated area if you really don’t want to let someone else do it.
@trishlrich – I’m not opposed to Pampers (yet), so I’ll be happy to take them off your hands! On the other hand, it’ll be 4-5 months until I need them, so if you’d rather give them to the church nursery, feel free!
Oh, and I meant to ask you, do you have a preference on the brand of diapers you’re going to use? I overbought just a smidge on Pampers size 1-2’s, but I know Karen had a problem with Pampers, so I didn’t know if you would want my extras or not. It’s about half a box from Sams Club, so there are quite a few!! Just let me know – I’m sure our church will take them if you don’t want them!
^ Just open the windows and paint away!! I did a bit of research on that because when we moved into our house, I was about five months pregnant with Kayla. I wanted to help decorate, and the people we bought our house from sound suspiciously like the people you bought yours from with the bright/dark colors!! What I found was that the only problem they found had been in people who worked around paint and were around it almost constantly the whole time they were pregnant. I believe the birth defect they found it could cause is that the intestines would not be fully enclosed in the skin. (Keep in mind I researched this over two years ago, so that might not be exactly what it was, but it was something that sounded pretty gross.) Regular indoor wall paint is supposed to be a lot safer than oil-based paint, too (like Kilz primer). I helped paint most of the rooms in our house then, and I helped paint Ian’s room while pregnant with him. You may argue that my kids are a little weird (whose aren’t??), but I have to tell you, I did not see either of their intestines!
I say, if YOU feel comfortable with it, do it!! ^
You DO know you shouldn’t be around paint fumes, don’t you?????
I love yellow. Our bedroom is yellow….VERY cheery.
The next ultrasound appointment (at which gender should be revealed) is scheduled in the near future. However, I’ve decided that I’m not sharing exactly when. I’ll surprise you all with the news when we have it! Mwhahahahah!
Oh, and I added the paint situation above to clarify…
Yeah, are you going to find out the sex of your babies? If so, when’s that fun day?
Hope the person at the paint desk is a bit more composed today. You wouldn’t think it would be that complex, right? 🙂
I’m confused after reading about the paint situation. Hope it’s easier from now on.
Now why are you matching paint? Did you not have enough of the color? I missed that part?
I feel like kindred spirits as I’m painting a room for my twins, too!
You haven’t found out the sex of the babies yet, have you? I’ve been reading (sometimes skimming) my subscriptions lately, but I didn’t think I’d missed that.
i like quiet days like that.
grilled steak=YUM. husbands doing the cooking=MARVELOUS!
