Some baby stuff…

The last couple of days have been surprisingly hard to handle, pregnancy-wise.  I am 27 weeks now, and all of a sudden, the babies are heavy, I can’t get comfortable, they are moving/kicking ALL the time, and I was sure someone had shifted positions because where I was getting kicked had suddenly changed.  I’m also entering new phases of pregnancy effects (that they don’t always tell you about), and it occurred to me yesterday that the next 10 weeks of pregnancy are going to be a lot harder than the first 27 have been.

And, today, when we had our ultrasound (at 8 a.m. – what were we thinking?!? ), I found out that I was right about pretty much all of those points.

1. The babies are heavy/I can’t get comfortable – Yep.  As of this morning, the girl (we could see some hair!) weighed in at 2 lbs, 9 oz., and the boy at 2 lbs, 6 oz.  That means I’m hauling around about 5 lbs of babies (plus extras)!  The nurse said this would be equivalent to a 35-week singleton…no wonder I can’t get comfortable!

2. They are kicking all the time – Yep.  They were moving during the ultrasounds.  She felt them, too.

3. They’ve shifted positions – Yep.  Last time, little girl was breach, and little boy was head down, kicking me in my ribs when he moved.  Now the girl is head-down, and the boy is breach, with his head up near my ribs (causing much discomfort when he stretches – see #2) and his little foot in just the right place to be kicking me in my bladder and cervix, which is suddenly where I’m being kicked all the time.  Of course, we do want them both head-down eventually, or I will have to have a c-section (doctor’s orders).  I’d rather not if I can help it…

4.  New pregnancy effects – Yep.  And it’s the little boy’s fault!  His new position (feet down) is encouraging these new pregnancy effects (i.e.,
“leaking”), meaning they’re nothing to worry about (i.e., “not amniotic
fluid”), which is a great relief to me.

5. The next 10 weeks will be hardest – Yep.  The nurse confirmed this for me heartily.  It’s going to be hard to keep going until Thanksgiving.  But that’s the goal, and we’ll just have to see how it goes…

Anyway, that’s the update as I have it.  And, because I know you like them, here are a couple of pictures for you to enjoy, too.

  1. wow wow wow and I thought I was having it tough – you poor thing.

Take it easy when you can – listen to your body.  You can do it!!!!!!!!

Thanks for posting the pics.  Mine little man has been kicking me big time in the bladder and now ribs – it actually hurts a fair bit doesn’t it.  I can’t imagine what’s it’s like when you have two in there one kicking in the ribs and the other in the bladder.  WOW!

At least they are growing and healthy – over 2lbs hey – nice (if you are not carrying them around 😉

  2. You look great but wow, I’m amazed as well.  Not sure where you’re going to put those babies for 10 more weeks.  Praying for your comfort and for sleep for you!

  3. Take it easy, girl!! Your body is working DOUBLE overtime here! Praying they get to at least five pounds each, that they’re perfectly healthy, that you have strength and that your little boy decides that being breech is overrated and scootches his behind around.

Hugs to you and your babies!

  4. Thanks for the pictures.  You look great!  Do you even have a stretch mark?  Unbelievable.

And let me tell you, I don’t know if you’ll have to carry them 10 more weeks.  You are not a big person.  You’re going to just run out of room.  It happens.  But they’re growing so well, it’ll be fine.  I say get the hospital bag packed early!  Are you doing a childbirth class?  You better take that soon, too if you are.  I won the doorprize at my class: a big case of diapers, size 1!  Huggies, a brand I never bought myself because they were too expensive.  Yippee!

  5. Oh dear….I know how hard it was to carry Titus….and he came out under 7 pounds.  I’m sure you are very uncomfortable.  Take is easy whenever you can!  I’m sure you are.  I think it’s so cool that you are having a boy and a girl!  I have a good friend who is pregnant with twins after years and years of trying.  I hope she is having the same.

Oh the leaking….don’t feel bad.  After I had my boys I pray no one makes me laugh hard or have a coughing attack to this day!

Hugs to you today and I love the belly shots!

  6. Hang in there, Shannah! I hear every woman (with kids) says yes, pregnancy is such a pain and yes, they would do it again because it was SO worth it. I know, hard to remember on those bad days…

And yeah, the leaking really stinks. Laughing and sneezing are doing me in already. I totally feel for you with your little boy kicking you right in the bladder. Urgh!
