Off

That’s the best word I can find to describe yesterday: off.

It wasn’t a bad day by any stretch, but it just felt like we were a step or two away from normal.

I think the weekend caught up with me, so I was really tired.  And we had company, so nap schedules and my normal routine were missing.  Erin hardly napped all day…still don’t know why.  Then Eric came home exhausted from an all-day meeting.  And our night was not as completely sleep-ful as I would have liked.

But like I said, it wasn’t a bad day.  My MIL and Eric’s grandma came to visit.  They brought lunch, and hung out for a few hours.  I’m finding that spending most days alone with babies has caused my socializing skills to go rusty (and they weren’t that great to begin with!).  So I was glad they headed home sooner than I thought they would.

The primary reason for their visit, however, was so my MIL could finally bring over the wall hangings she made for the nursery.  She designed and made them herself on her new sewing/embroidery machine. I think they turned out incredibly cute.   Now I just hope I manage to get them hung up in a shorter amount of time than it took her to make them!

Anyway – here are some pics of them.

  1. wow-your mother in law is very talented.  I love the wall hangings!
Hang in there girl – hope today is better!

  2. I love the wall hangings.  Very nice!

I think you are doing very well with these 2 precious babies!  There’s so much to learn as a first time mom with 1 baby, let alone 2 and the not getting enough sleep or them not getting enough sleep is tough.  Hang in there!  It will get better.  I had to laugh.  When we saw Priscilla Shirer at the conf she told about being in Target with 3 kids and how flustered she was and how just plain awful the entire trip was.  A woman about my age came up to her and said “these are the times of your life.  Blink and you will miss it.”  To which Priscilla started blinking her eyes fast.  We got a good laugh out of it.  But we’ve all been there and know that feeling.  The first year of my twins life was unreal.  They were my youngest of 4, very close in age kids.  I sometimes find myself dealing with things now that I think “man I wish I could go back to that time and live that instead of the stuff I’m dealing with now.”  Then I slap myself back into reality!  It’s hard where you are at right now.  But you are doing great!  I will stop now since I’m just rambling.

  3. those are beautiful. 🙂

i like how his name is all manly & hers is all scripty. 🙂

and i’m totally with gail.  social skills?  who cares about social skills.  lets just focus on showers & matching socks.    you’ll get your knack back some day!  and by then your kids will be the converstaion pieces & the entertainment—so the pressure is totally off for at least 18 years.  and then you’ll have to worry about a graduation party & whatnot.

  4. Very cute wall hangings!  She’s very talented!

I think anyone who is living on as little real rest as you for this long should be excused from proper socializing.  Seriously.

  5. I love the blankets!  My mom’s mom, my dad’s aunt, and a few members of my husband’s family are big on making blankets, quilts, and things of that nature.  Of all gifts I’ve received from my family, these kinds of things are my favorites.  My mom did a few needlepoints for us when we were babies, and the faded framed creations are a few of the treasures of my childhood that survived the years.  So… I’m not pushing your babies to grow up, but those are going to be with them for a long time
