So Saturday night Eric and I went to the Columbus Symphony to hear Mozart’s Symphonies 39, 40, and 41.  Number 40 is Eric’s favorite.  This year (actually this week sometime) is Mozart’s 250th birthday, so the Columbus Symphony is doing a Mozart series.  Since Eric is a big fan of Mozart, I bought him tickets to a couple of the concerts for Christmas.  He really enjoyed the performance I think.  I, on the other hand, had a little more trouble enjoying it, primarily because of the gentleman who sat in front of me.

Inevitably, no matter how many open seats exist around me, someone sits directly in front of me, always tall enough to exactly block my view. Also, he or she will typically be a fidgiter, meaning that I will constantly have to move to see around them.  This gentlemen fit all of the above requirements.  But the bigger issue was that he also had some sort of disease (I’ve never seen anything like it) where his entire body, from what we could tell, was covered with bumps.  They looked like growths, ranging from small to the size of large grapes and covering his face, the back of his neck, his hands.  They were even all through his hair.  It was, honestly, somewhat repulsive.  Then, of course, the Holy Spirit reminded me that Jesus loves this man and that he must spend most of his life dealing with people staring and reacting to his looks.  It was a good reminder for me, since I tend to be overly critical of how people look anyway, and I eventually got myself trained to ignore the bumps as much as possible.  But it was not a typical visit to the symphony!

Anyway, on to today.  I have a long list of to-do’s today.  Eric and I went out to eat (Tim Horton’s) and then to Home Depot last night.  I did get the laundry folded and put away before bedtime, so that was good.  And we bought some really nice wood for Eric to use to build us a nice TV stand to replace the crappy one we have now!  And the wood was on sale, so that was a nice surprise!

But today, I now have to do many of the things I didn’t get done last night.  I have some writing for church I need to do and grading/prep work for classes.  I need to finish the laundry (I haven’t washed the dress clothes, which then also adds ironing to the to-do list).  I need to prep for Drama meeting tomorrow night, and I think I’m going to make an appointment at the chiropractor for Eric for tonight, so that will shoot the evening. But if it helps his back from constantly bothering him, it will be worth it.  So anyway…on to the list!

  1. PT’s don’t like chiropractors because a lot of them advertise that they do physical therapy. Some of them have ultrasound or electrical stimulation machines in their offices so they say they also do physical therapy. Or because they give their clients exercises to do they think they’re giving them therapy. I’ve heard chiropractors work for a lot of people so I’m not 100% against them though.
Look at you with 12 comments!

  2. I forgot to tell you. I’m getting it done at my regular dentist’s office in Worthington, but Mom is coming up here to drive me home afterward, and I’m going to Cedarville for the weekend, so they can all wait on me hand and foot.

  3. Yep, only two days left. It’s funny because I get to hear all kinds of stories from people, and there’s such a range of reactions just like Karen and Chris. I hope I’m more like Chris on this one!

  4. Actually, Michelle, I’m not a huge fan of all chiropractors either.  I don’t buy the line that fixing your back will fix any problem you have (sinus, cold, cancer, whatever), and I don’t buy the “okay you’re fixed…come see me next week” line either.  Thankfully, the guy in Cedarville doesn’t make you come back every week for a single problem, and he admits there are problems that he can’t fix.  That gives me a little more faith…and Eric’s been having a lot of trouble with his back and this is a good place to start.  If it fixes it, great.  If not, we’ll see what the next step is.

    Why don’t PT’s like them?

  5. We have a woman at church with that disease. The bumps are everywhere. She tends to wear long sleeved shirts and pants or long dresses to cover as many as she can. She is very self conscious about them. If you are around her for very long, you can ignore them for the most part. But when you first see her your eyes are just drawn to them. There’s a name for the problem but I can’t remember what it’s called.

Anyway, if you need some more ironing, let me know.I could always use some help in that category!!

  6. Sounds like an interesting night at the symphony! You should have asked for a booster seat or something!

Good luck with your to do list!

  7. If you take the dress clothes out of the dryer immediately, you shouldn’t need to iron them. That’s my philosophy at least. Of course, I don’t really wear that many dress clothes and Chris does iron his shirts anyway.
I am not a big fan of chiropractors (PT’s don’t generally like them), but if it works I guess it’s okay. I just don’t think you should have to keep going back — it doesn’t seem like they’re fixing the problem then.

  8. If Eric does go to the chiropractor tonight, that will give you more time to finish your to-do list!  Also, it would mean you could put it off longer to start it later!
