Oh….and I happened to catch the Oscar nominations on the Today show this morning. What a joke those things are. Let’s take the movies that somehow represent whatever agenda the Academy most prefers and give them an award which we’ll claim is for “good acting” or “good directing.” Seriously, the only ones that could even possibly be legit are the ones for screenplay and adapted screenplay, simply because they would actually have to be well-written (even if the director modifies it before the filming ends). Anyway, I like engaging culture and all that stuff, but sometimes I hate that our society functions on the assumption that I’m stupid!
The academy awards and all the hoopla surrounding them totally makes me sick. That said…If I happen to flip by the channel when they’re on, I can’t help but watch. I don’t know why they suck me in. In general, I think all awards shows are a bunch of bunk. And I think the brokeback mountain is totally Hollywood generated. I want to hear a Jon Stossel “give me a break!” on the whole thing!
When you get around to having a baby, I’m buying you completely white, colorless, practical things.
If you ever get around to that…
I kind of like to watch the red carpet part…just to see what everyone’s wearing. It amazes me, though, how many people are so into it. When I went to Italy a couple years ago, I met a girl from China who could tell me who won which award for the past several years…kind of sad.
Yes…they all too often are stupid, Kim. Too bad they can’t be like us!
Truthfully, I never watch the Oscar. It’s too long and you can just read who one the next morning! One of Eric’s co-workers saw Brokeback. He said it was well done but it did get a bit uncomfortable at times (and he’s pretty liberal, tolerant, etc.). I can appreciate the well-made part, but I don’t think I really need to put those images into my head!
I’m not sure I like this year’s Brokeback agenda (althought part of me does want to see the movie). I think it was kind of expected, though.
You have to remember, too, that a lot of people are stupid!
Same here.
I could probably count on one hand the number of movies I’ve seen in the past year, so I’m sure I won’t know anything about the Oscar nominated movies. I hardly ever have seen the ones nominated for best picture. I don’t usually watch the show since it’s so long either.
