My list of observations from yesterday.
- My Basic English students didn’t seem to have too much trouble with the test I gave…but I haven’t graded them yet!
- It’s nice to have some affirmation sometimes.
- A Basic student said, as he left the room, “That was a good test…it worked for me.”
- While I explained why I require outlines to be in full sentences (because it requires them to think the thought all the way through and make sure they know what they think), the student who asked the question said, “Wow…that kinda makes sense.” He seemed shocked.
- People who drive stupidly should have their licenses revoked.
- A dude driving a big white box truck on I70 yesterday morning was trying to cause an accident. Slowing down…speeding up, trapping a bunch of cars behind him, but refusing to pass me (I was doing 60) so everyone, except him, was terribly annoyed.
- From the TV show, “How It’s Made” : Bubble gum is made from a gum base that used to be made from tree resin and now is made primarily of rubbers and plastics (no wonder we shouldn’t swallow it!). It is usually pink because that was the only color the inventor had on-hand when he first made bubble gum.
- Sitting on a rubber exercise ball and trying to keep your balance without using your legs is harder than it would seem…or perhaps I don’t have the balance I should have!
- We went over to Karen’s last night so Eric could help Erik work on the leak in their a/c unit in the basement. So they got to go to Sears and buy “manly stuff” while we sat in the basement and talked. I sat on the exercise ball and was very entertained!
I’ve heard of lots of people using them as desk chairs — it’s an ab workout all day long!
^ Interesting. Do you think my boss would mention it if I brought one of the balls in and used it instead of my chair? Or maybe use that as the extra seat in my office? ^
I used to use the balls sometimes when I worked in a PT gym that they were there. Every once in a while I would use one at the desk rather than a chair. It really made me focus on my posture, too.
I like fiction mystery books. They keep my interest and make time go faster.
Seriously, for 20 bucks each? I think I can handle it!
^I like that idea! ^ I might even try sitting on one…maybe not. I’d probably hurt myself and that wouldn’t be good!! But it might be fun to watch!!
^ It’d probably be a money saver. ^
^ Those are better for your abs than crunches. ^
Shan, I can’t say I’ve ever had fun sitting on it. Instead, I considered it torture at the gym. Maybe I should get a few in place of furniture for my living room!
When I saw your comment, I realized I’m a liar. I haven’t done crunches on it (but I’ve seen other people do them). I’ve done leg lifts, like when you lay on your belly on the ball and lift your legs up behind you. I’m sorry I lied to you.
Kyle always wants to watch “How It’s Made”, too. For some reason, I can’t get into that one, even though it has such interesting things as you’ve shown! Maybe it’s because I don’t chew bubble gum.
Instead of revoking those people’s driver’s licenses, I usually think there should just be a rule that no one but me is allowed on the roads I drive on when I want to be on them! That should take care of it. (for me at least)
I have never tried that on the exercise ball. The only things I’ve done on them is crunches and birthing exercises (that’s why I refer to them as “birthing balls”).
Sitting on that ball is great for your core! You should buy one and watch TV like that!
How fun that you’re getting through to your students..even if they’re a little slow about it!
