Happy Valentine’s Day
It really is strange that we celebrate a Hallmark holiday that was probably based on a Christianized version of a pagan sex celebration, don’t you think?
It certainly gives a different perspective to think about that. And that the original St. Valentine was martyred either for marrying couples after Claudius outlawed marriage to fill his army ranks or for helping Christians escape Rome (it depends on who you ask!). Either one sounds questionable, though, right?
So, in honor of the day, what is the best Valentine’s thing you ever did, received or gave?
As for the rest of life, yesterday wasn’t too eventful. Eric wasn’t very hungry last night, so we ate when we were hungry. He finished patching walls and cleaned up his mess (I didn’t even have to ask or help!), and we then ran out to get the ingredients for our Valentines dinner tonight. We’ve decided to stay home and cook a “fancy” meal together which should be fun. (We’ll be making “real” beef stroganoff with filet mignon over mashed potates, salad, and molton chocolate cake.) When we came out of Giant Eagle, we decided to see if there was any wait at the place we get our hair cut. There wasn’t, so Eric happily got his hairs all shortened significantly. He’s needed a haircut for about 3 weeks, so it was a well-timed activity.
We watched Good Eats and Mythbusters before going to bed. Oh…and next week’s Mythbusters is about MacGyver myths…how fun is that! My very early morning yesterday caught up with me all of a sudden about 9:30, but I made it until 10 and slept much better last night. Yay!
EDIT (8:11): Okay, so it looks like I need some Xanga friend prayers again this morning, after all. I am finding my old fears are not giving up the ghost as easily as I’d prefer. God is good, and I know that He won’t fail me, but I hate that I fall so easily when one of my triggers gets tripped. I’m tired of the grip fear has on my life. So, if you would, please pray that I’d let God break its power over me completely and that I’d trust him in my fear today. Thanks!
Today, I have no major plans. A bit of tidying up, maybe a WalMart run, and ironing. Other than that…we shall see! Happy Thursday to you all!
Love the new profile pic. I have been out of action with my blog reading the last several weeks so am trying to get back on top of it..

^Ew. I don’t want to think about Kirby in those underwear.^
So you know, Shan, I prayed this morning, but I didn’t have time to comment. Love you!
DeWayne and I had a fun Valentine’s in college. He was working at The Grill (a little food joint on campus). I went in about the time he got off and ordered our supper. He cooked it, and we walked back to my dorm. It was “visitation hours” so he was allowed upstairs in my room. We had a candle-lit picnic on the floor of my room, supper out of styrofoam containers and all!
Love the prayer above…and we all love you!
LOL to Garfield bikini underwear with hearts!
I Peter 1: 3-6
God has you in the hollow of his hand. Relax, and cuddle into His arms. He would NEVER abandon you…..I pray right now, Lord Jesus, that Shannah have peace and contentment and a strong wall built around her to keep Satan and his doubts and fears away from her. We know, God, that you do infinitely more than we could ever ask or hope, and I thank you for your answer to this prayer. Fill Shannah with the UNSHAKEABLE knowledge of your love and mercy….no matter what. Give her the strength and faith to know that your will is right….every time, all the time. Amen.
My best gift was a sapphire and diamond ring. We never got ‘serious’ presents…I was blown away!! (especially since I’d gotten HIM Garfield bikini underwear w/hearts!
