Happy News!

I just found out that my best friend and roommate from college is pregnant again (sorry guys…it’s not me!).  Mike & Erika got married in July after we graduated and then had a surprise baby who was born the following September.  Then when they were ready to have another, they had a hard time getting pregnant.  So there are 4 years between their first and second.  This will be their third, only 2 years after the second which is good.  Anyway, I thought it was fun!

Today I’m having some friends over for lunch.  We’ve decided to get together every Thursday at lunchtime for talking and accountability, and I’m hosting today.  It should be lots of fun!  I’m making chicken salad sandwiches with grapes and almonds in it.  They’re bringing a side dish and dessert.

I also really need to run some errands today.  I may try to get out before they come, but it might have to wait until evening.  We’ll see.  At least my house is already clean from last weekend (okay I had to tidy up a little bit) when we hosted our small group!  That saves time and hassle.  And I even remembered to get the garbage out this morning.  I’m on a roll, I guess!

For some reason, CU’s website blocker does not like the webring link on
Xanga anymore.  It used to be fine, but now I have to actually go
to your sites through the comments link because I can’t get to the
webring proper anymore.  It’s very annoying!  BTW, has any of
the non-daily bloggers been on recently?  I haven’t been to
anyone’s sites but Trisha, Michelle and Kim for days now.

Today feels like Thursday, not Wednesday, but I’ll try to slog
through.  I bored my students about bibliographies and they are
hard to inspire at 9:00 am.  I really try to be interesting, but
it’s hard because documentation is just not that thrilling.
Unfortunately, they tend to zone out and then miss stuff and then are
annoyed when I take off points because they didn’t do it right. Oh
well…not really my problem, I guess.  Anyway, only a few more
days of lectures and then we focus on revising and working on papers
which are always more productive.

Last night, Eric made us pizza for dinner as well (but we ate at
6:00).  It was nice to have him cook, but I am also running very
low on food (particularly fresh stuff like veggies) but I refuse to go
shopping until April 1 (new month’s budget and all).  So I have no
idea how I’m going to get dinner done for the next few days!

I walked in the rain today.  Actually it was not raining when I left the house, but then I got pretty wet before I was done!  So I came home and threw the wet clothes into the dryer, so now they ready for tomorrow (when it isn’t supposed to rain!).  Either way, it is finally both warm enough and light enough to exercise outside again, so I am very happy about that.

Last night was uneventful.  I had a hard time thinking of anything for dinner, so we ate at 7:00 (though I did get it ready in 20 minutes when I did decide!).  Then Eric and I both just hung out.  He worked on his computer upstairs and I worked on my laptop on the couch.  We both read for a while and then went to bed.  Not very exciting…

I have to go to CU today.  I’m giving a presentation for the Writing Center today, there’s a reception for someone who’s resigning that I want to go to, and I have a couple of advising meetings.  Unfortunately, having to go down makes today feel like Wednesday, so now the rest of my week will be a day off!  Oh well…

It’s SPRING!

I know this because it’s finally going to be warmer than 50 degrees
during the day and not fall below 40 degrees tonight.  And
yesterday, when we left church, the breeze smelled like the beginning
of spring.  I LOVE warm weather!

Okay, so the weekend wasn’t terribly interesting.  I barely
remember Friday night (oh…Eric went to a hockey game with his
brother, so I sat on the couch and vegged out with the tv and computer
games mostly).  It was a pretty relaxing evening, I guess.
Eric and I ran around for a bit on Saturday afternoon.  Then I
cleaned a bit, finished the laundry (I even ironed), and made
dinner.  We watched Castaway together after dinner (I didn’t
really like the movie).  Sunday, after church, I finished cleaning
the house (we hosted our small group last night) and made
cookies.  I also did some writing and prep work for drama stuff
that’s coming up.  So I guess it was productive, and it was the
most refreshing weekend I’ve had in a while.

Today is back to classes (I’m starting research and documentation for
the research paper), but the semester is going to start flying by
now!  I have 2.5 weeks until Easter, then 1.5 weeks until Finals
(which I don’t count as part of the semester because everything’s crazy
and I mostly have grading to do).  So we are just getting closer
and closer.  I cannot wait!!!!

Friday!  Friday! Friday!

Lunch with my friends was a good time yesterday.  Good food, good
company, lots of laughs! Of course, I didn’t get much else done during
the day.  I caught up after I got back.  I vacuumed some in
the upstairs, but I accidentally sucked a fabric belt from one of my
sweaters into the vacuum.  So then I had to take the whole dumb
thing apart to make sure it was okay; then it turned out that the
bristles were very much in need of a cleaning, so I actually ended up
with a bigger pile of dirt to sweep up once I got the thing all cleaned
out!

Anyway, I also got the laundry worked through and cleaned the dishes
from dinner (the pot roast turned out great!).  It’s also great
that we get our beef free from Eric’s parents who butcher a cow once a
year, but cannot possibly finish all the meat.  So they let us
raid their freezer whenever we want.  So the fun news: yesterday’s
4 lb. roast cost 4 cents.  Total!  That’s one cent a
pound…definitely better than the store!

Michelle called me yesterday.  We chatted about songs we used to
sing.  Then we talked about our cell phones.  I think we’re
getting old… Well…maybe just me since she’s still only 28.

Yesterday was a very busy day.  I gave someone a ride to CU, so I had to be ready to leave on time.  I had my classes, which took a lot out of me yesterday.  I also caught up all my grading and met with a student about revising one of her papers.  Then I rushed home and made dinner.  Then we ate and headed for church for orchestra and drama.

Drama wasn’t the best night ever.  I had a few things to do, not much because I was tired and wanted to go home early.  But I kept running into walls with members of the group.  So instead of spending quality time doing things, it felt like I’d offer our next activity and then get shot down.  It was sort of frustrating.  Now, I probably should’ve been more prepared with other options, but I had no idea I’d hit opposition.  Grrr…

Anyway, the evening wasn’t a total loss.  We did have some good laughs.  I got to chat with another of the leaders to plan for some future events at church, and Eric was most attentive when we got home.  I got a much needed backrub!  And then I slept like a rock!

So today, I’m getting together with some friends for lunch and we are planning to start an accountability group.  It should be a good thing, I think.  I also need to make a dessert for that, do laundry, work on the cleaning I didn’t get done on Tuesday, and a few other minor things.  So today feels full and I haven’t even started it yet!

VERY Tired today!

I was tired when I went to bed but couldn’t fall asleep.  Then I
apparently didn’t actually turn on my alarm, so I woke up a few minutes
late but still really tired.  I’m tired of being tired.

Yesterday was not as productive as I’d hoped it would be.  I did
get a few things done (my husband does have undershirts in his drawer
again), but not as much as I had on my list.  I did, however,
scour the bathrooms.  I even washed the base of the toilets (I
forget to do that sometimes because I hate cleaning toilets).
Then I got down on my hands and knees and scrubbed the floors.  It
was sort of gross, but it looks really nice now!

I also spent a long time sitting in front of the computer and reading
the bible and other books trying to get some inspiration for a piece I
need to write for Easter Sunday.  I didn’t work.  I just
couldn’t get anything going.  Ah…writer’s block…such fun.

Last night, we had chicken burritos for dinner, then I cleaned the
kitchen and did some reading.  Then we went to bed.  I also
remembered at 10:00 (when I was almost asleep) that I had left a pot
roast on the counter, so I had to get back up and put it in the fridge
to finish thawing…how annoying!

So last night, the emergency broadcast system kept interrupting the television programming to warn us about the coming snow.  My husband kept calling it the “white death” because the media gets all spastic about the impending doom, and then it usually turns out to be a dusting of snow or less!  Anyway, Eric got up before me today (I sleep in until 7:00 on Tuesday) and when he came out of the bathroom, he said, “Look at the white death” and pulled up the shade.

NOT A SPECK OF SNOW TO BE SEEN!

Of course, at about 9:00 it did finally start snowing, and it’s been snowing every since, so we’ll probably end up getting the 1-3″ they were expecting.  But I thought it was funny!

I was grumpy last night…just couldn’t get my attitude right.  It was probably because I had to teach grammar in all my classes yesterday, and I knew they weren’t very interested.  That’s gets really draining.  Oh well…I’m better this morning.  And I have lots of projects to work on today, so that will also help some. I have some writing to do, and I should clean the bathrooms.  In fact, it’s about time to start the laundry again (I didn’t do or mention laundry the entire time you all were in Chicago…so now I guess it’s time to start it again!).

No Peeps for me!

Gross!  Peeps are just always yucky, I think!

Unfortunately, I don’t really have anything that exciting to post
about.  Friday night we hung out with some friends from church
(pizza, salad, and I made an ice cream dessert).  We ended up
having to watch the kids’ movie (Sky High) because the downstairs DVD
player broke, so we all sat around and watched a movie.  It’s
actually not bad…definitely a kids movie, but with lots of humor to
keep the parents entertained.  And a good moral ending, too…

Unfortunately, Eric’s back was bothering him again…but just a dull
ache.  Then when we arrived at Tom & Vicki’s house, he was
mocking my tendency to explode into nonverbals (imagine intense, highly
frustrated shaking of fists in the air…but no noise) when I’m grading
particularly bad papers.  In punishment for this, I think, he
actually hurt himself and started having sharp, shooting pains in his
back muscles.  He spent Saturday in moderate pain (dulled by pain
reliever, ice packs, and Icy Hot…Trisha, do you remember brushing
your teeth with Icy Hot at my Grandma Campbell’s house a long time
ago?).  Anyway, by Sunday, he was back to the dull ache again and
was much better.  I wish I knew why his back keeps doing this…

Anyway, while he was sitting, I ran to Sam’s Club and cleaned my
house.  But not the bathrooms.  I saved that for another
day.  Actually, I would’ve gotten to the bathrooms, but I suddenly
realized that I needed to make dinner (it was 6:30), and after dinner
we went to Home Depot to get Eric out of the house.  We looked at
countertops and paint colors for our kitchen re-do (currently scheduled
for this summer sometime).  Then we came home and went to
bed.  Sunday was church, relaxing, doing “homework” for small
group, going to small group, little bit of flag-waving, then sleep!

Wow…guess I did have stuff to say…

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

I am really tired today!  Yesterday I made an impromptu trip to
Pittsburgh with a friend. She had an audition for a TV pilot, and her
husband was more comfortable with her going when I volunteered to go,
too.  She was excited about the trip, but I think was glad for my
company when it was all done.  So I got up at 5:30 (on my day
off!), met her at 7:00 am and we drove to PA for her audition.  We
drove partway back and had lunch.  We got all the way back about
4:30.  I was SOOO tired!  But it was a good trip, and we had
a lot of fun talking.

Today it’s back to work (my alarm went off much too early!), but my
classes won’t be too hard today.  And I’m meeting Beth (Maxie)
Dillon for lunch today, so that should be fun.   Tonight,
Eric and I are going to hang out with some couples from the drama group
for pizza and games.  That should be fun, but I don’t think I’ll
be staying up too late!  I’m very glad tomorrow is Saturday!

Oh…and I’m coming to Trisha’s shower, too!
