So it was a really good birthday in some ways…not so good in others.
Eric came home early from work, so I got to spend the day with
him. He even ran errands with me, which he never does. I
got my new sweater cleaned yesterday, so I am wearing it today (it’s
really cute!). I got lots of cards, emails from friends…it’s so
nice to be remembered on your birthday! I did have to spend a lot
of the day reading papers, but I did get most of them done, so that was
also good.
Unfortunately, I also found out that I was denied admission to OSU’s
English program and that Kelly is too sick to have my birthday party
tonight. It’s been postponed until Saturday, but it all depends
on how she’s recovering by then (she had a BAD cough and 102 degree
fever, poor little kid!). So those two bigger issues sort of cast
a pall over the day for me, but I guess that’s just how it goes
sometimes.
Anyway, my parents are in Columbus today for a meeting, so I don’t know
what I’ll do for lunch. But I think I have my classes mostly
ready to go. So it shouldn’t be an overwhelming day. But
since I graded all evening last night, and it wasn’t a thrilling
birthday (and there won’t be a party tonight), maybe I should just make
tonight fun somehow. Any suggestions or ideas?
Yelena was actually nice enough — she just didn’t know what she was doing…

I like cheesecake. I’d definitely eat it for lunch.

I’m really sorry about the news from OSU. And I’m not really coming up with any good ideas for replacing the birthday party, either. If I were you, I would start reading a new book or a cross stitch project!!
But I don’t like cake…
And now the OSU saga continues, too. Turns out the “promises” they made when I met with them last fall were apparently forgotten the second I left the door. However, “since I specifically asked” they are considering me for the MA now (“though they usually don’t consider Ph.D. candidates for an MA position”…which is exactly what I was told they would do for me last fall without a double application). But now, even if they do accept me for an MA…do I really want it?
Call Lindsey and go see her for lunch! We’re really good at celebrating people’s birthdays at my mom’s house – it doesn’t even have to be your birthday! She’d definitely make you a cake!

Sorry about not getting into OSU and your party being cancelled. Those do make the birthday go downhill a little, I’m sure. But you got to spend time with your husband and that is always nice! Hopefully tonight will be fun for you. I’m going to try to think up some good ideas for you, but all I can think of right now is ice skating because that’s what we were watching on the Olympics last night. It was men so they were all gay of course (per Chris).
